Check engine light on?
We find the cause.
Real diagnostics — not just a code-reader at the parts counter. ASE-certified technicians, manufacturer-level scan tools, and a written estimate before any repair.
A code is a clue. Diagnosis is the answer.
A check engine light points to a system — fuel trim, misfire, evap, oxygen sensor, transmission, emissions — but the code is rarely the whole story. A P0420 might be a bad catalyst, or it might be an upstream sensor lying about it. We test, we don’t guess.
We use Snap-on, Autel, and manufacturer scan tools (ISTA for BMW, XENTRY for Mercedes, ODIS for VW/Audi) to read live data, freeze-frame, and bi-directional controls. That’s how you find the real failure instead of throwing parts at a code.
When to bring it in.
Any one of these means it's time for a look — sooner is cheaper than later.
Something is out of spec. Drivable in most cases, but not safe to ignore — fuel economy and emissions are affected.
Active misfire. Catalyst damage can happen quickly. Limp the car to the shop and skip the highway.
Misfires, vacuum leaks, fuel trim issues, or coil failures — all common, all diagnosable.
Crank sensor, fuel pump, immobilizer, or battery — needs a proper scan and a real look, not a guess.
Failing oxygen sensors, dirty MAF, stuck thermostat, or dragging brakes will all kill MPG.
Emissions failures are diagnosable. We’ll find the fault, fix it, and re-inspect.
Done right, the first time.
ASE-certified technicians, OE-grade parts, and a written estimate before any work starts.
- Full scan, all modules
Engine, transmission, ABS, body, SRS. We read every module, not just the engine.
- Live data + freeze frame
We watch the engine run and see what it was doing when the code set. That’s where the answers live.
- Smoke test for evap leaks
P0440 / P0455 family codes get a real smoke test — not a guess about the gas cap.
- Misfire isolation
Coil swap, injector test, compression check. We find which cylinder and why.
- Sensor verification
Oxygen, MAF, MAP, crank, cam — tested against known-good values before condemning.
- Written diagnosis
You get a clear write-up: what’s wrong, what it’ll cost, and what’s urgent vs. can wait.
Manufacturer-level scan tools and trained techs who know how to use them.
No shotgun parts. You get a diagnosis fee, then a repair estimate based on the actual failure.
We’ve seen the weird ones. Most CELs we diagnose without dismantling anything.
Quick answers.
How much does check engine light diagnosis cost?+
Diagnostic fees typically run $90–$150 depending on the system. If you approve the repair, the diagnostic is often credited toward the work. Call for an exact quote.
Can’t the parts store read it for free?+
They can read a code. They can’t tell you why it set, or which of the five possible causes is yours. That’s the difference between a code reader and a diagnosis.
Is it safe to drive with the light on?+
Solid light: usually yes, but get it diagnosed before it gets worse. Flashing light: no — pull over and call for a tow.
My light went off — am I good?+
The fault may have intermittently cleared, but the code is stored in memory. Have it scanned before it comes back.
Do you do TX state inspection re-tests?+
Yes. Once we repair the fault, we verify the readiness monitors and re-inspect.
